Gettysburg & Washington DC 06-25-18 to 06-27-18
They started out the day in Gettysburg with a lesson on marching and re-enacting of the Union lines. After eating lunch at the Dobbin House which was built in the 1700s and was used as a stop on the Underground Railroad, they headed over to the Holocaust Museum in Washington DC. They walked along the Potomac River in old town Alexandria and tried to catch fireflies along the Tidal Basin.

In the morning, they began with a tour of the Capitol. The teachers had contacted our congressman Dana Rohrabacher this morning, and he was gracious enough to give them gallery passes which allowed them to see the Senate and House of Representatives while in session. They went to the Library of Congress then headed to Arlington National Cementary to see the wreath laying ceremony. They followed that up with the Air Force Memorial and the World War II Memorial, and they ended the day with the White House and the Washington Monument.

On their last day, they started at the Korean War Memorial, then to the Vietnam Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial, and then saw the Magna Carta, the Declaration of Independence, the Constitution, and the Bill of Rights at the National Archives. They finished up their trip by touring George Washington's home Mount Vernon before flying home that night.

New York & Philadelphia 06-22-18 to 06-24-18
First stop on Cecily's 8th grade East Coast Trip was New York. After their red-eye flight, they started their day at the 9/11 Tribute Center hearing a personal story from Dan. He was part of the cleanup crew and showed them many pictures from the attacks. Then they walked across the Brooklyn Bridge and had dinner at Katz Deli. They finished off the evening watching the sunset from Top of the Rock.

In the morning, they left New York and headed to Philadelphia to tour Independance Hall. They had lunch at Redding Terminal Market, then ran up the Rocky steps. At the Constitution Center, they got a chance to vote as part of the interactive display. Then they arrived in Gettysburg to meet President Abraham Lincoln. Some of the kids took a dip in the indoor pool before heading to bed.

Promotion 06-19-18
Papa, Grandma, Grandpa Otto, and Grandma Lynn all came to Cecily's 8th Grade Promotion at Marine View. Because Caren had been on the PTA board all 3 years of middle school, they were able to get reserved seats on the gym floor instead of first come first serve bleacher seats.
After Promotion, the kids headed into the 8th grade dance. Once the dance was over, we headed to Olive Garden for a family dinner (just like after 5th grade culmination).

Harbour View & Marine View 06-08-18
Caren attended Harbour View's last Pelican Pride assembly of the year as part of Mrs. O's retirement send-off. They had a lovely reception afterwards in Pelican Hall where she was able to get a photo with Mrs. O and Mr. Lynch. Crazy how Cecily's elementary pricipal and middle school principal were leaving the same year.
