Pelican Pride 05-30-14
This month's Pelican Pride Assembly was also the Locks of Love event. The girls got their hair cut first during Locks of Love, then the kids got their awards during the Pelican Pride Assembly. Cecily earned the Writing Award this month, even though she had a broken arm.

Girl Scouts & Open House 05-28-14
At our last Girl Scout meeting of the year, the girls brought in their money they made from their lemonade stands and the items they collected for the Marine Care Packages. Their goal was to collect 250 items and together they collected over 330 items. The money they earned selling lemonade would help pay for the shipping of the packages to the marines. Their troop leader, Mrs. Arendt, sewed all their hard-earned patches onto their sashes which the girls loved. As an end of the year gift, the troop gave Caren an awesome camera lens mug.

In the evening, we had Open House at Harbour View. Since we enjoyed walking there last year, we decided to do it again this year. Cecily enjoyed showing Richard all the stuff she had worked on at school. She even showed us the Power Point presentation she made about her fourth grade year. On the way home, we stopped at Rita's for some ice cream with Emma and her mom Amy.

Broken Arm 05-23-14
So, Cecily broke her arm. Caren picked her up from school Wednesday, and she had just jumped off the monkey bars and landed bad on her left wrist. She was holding her arm and complaining that it hurt. We went to the nurse and borrowed an ice pack. Then we headed to lunch and to run an errand. Cecily still said her wrist hurt but apparently not bad enough from keeping her from going to play at a friend's house after Caren wrapped her wrist with an Ace bandage. Cecily got home after dinner, showered, and went to bed. No tears and medicine were involved. Cecily woke up Thursday morning still complaining her wrist hurt. So to be safe, Caren took her to the nearby urgent care to get x-rayed. And it was broken, but not her wrist. It was her radius bone in her left arm. Urgent care put a splint on to tide her over until she could go see the orthopedic surgeon the next day for a cast. Cecily was so excited to get a bright orange cast for her friends to sign. We were worried since most people said casts needed to be on for 4-6 weeks, but Cecily's doctor said only 3 weeks and then a removable brace. She had a little difficulty writing since she broke her dominant arm, but the cast sure doesn't slow Cecily down!

Kira's Birthday & Lemonade 05-17-14
Happy 10th Birthday, Kira! Cecily helped her celebrate at her very first slumber party. The kids decorated their own flip flops and made their own pillowcases. They ate their pizza dinner on Kira's boat out back. They sang karaoke, played a silly dress-up game, and ate birthday cake. Kira opened presents before they put on their pajamas to watch a movie. In the morning, they had pancakes and put on silly tattoo mustaches. Caren brought Scarlett home with them so that Scarlett and Cecily could have a lemonade stand. They were raising money for Girl Scouts to support their Marine Care Packages Take Action Project. They needed to make $5 each to pay for shipping the packages, and they ended up with a total of $14. Cecily did a great job staying the night at her first sleepover party and making money at her lemonade stand.

Volunteer Appreciation 05-16-14
Harbour View had their Volunteer Appreciation breakfast this morning in Pelican Hall. All the kids of the parent volunteers came in to sing songs by grade level. The PTA president, Jen, did an amazing job honoring the outgoing 5th grade parent volunteers with her songs. Can't believe we only have one more year left at Harbour View!

Teacher Appreciation 05-14-14
Since Caren took on the Hospitality chair for the PTA, she was in charge of Teacher Appreciation for the whole school. She threw a luncheon for about 60 teachers and staff at the lovely waterfront home of a Harbour View family. The theme was "thanks for bee-ing the best" with sandwiches, salads, fruit, and dessert. Even though the setting was amazing, it was a crazy hot day with crazy winds. Cecily was two doors down at Emily's house, and they spied on the luncheon by going by on Emily's Duffy. Even though the weather was not so nice, the teachers enjoyed being off school grounds for their appreciation luncheon.

Fourth Grade Concert 05-12-14
They had the 4th and 5th Grade Concert today. Caren went to the morning dress rehearsal to take pictures and videos. When the wind knocked one of the microphones over onto Caren, the music teacher decided to move the concert into Pelican Hall. The kids did a fantastic job at both the outside show and the inside show. But because they moved the show into Pelican Hall, there was no room for the other kids to come watch the performances. The fifth graders sang "Fifty Nifty," which Caren also learned in fifth grade. Can't wait for Cecily to learn that song next year!

Mother's Day 05-11-14
Happy Mother's Day! We headed up to see Caren's family and have lunch at Gen. After lunch and pictures, we stopped by the San Gabriel Mission because Cecily wanted to check it out. She is having fun learning about California Missions in fourth grade.

Soccer Game 05-10-14
Poison Ivy played their last game today, and they were great tying the game 2-2. The girls have all improved so much over the season. After the game, we had our end-of-the-season pizza party at Lamppost. In April, Cecily had tried out for the AYSO EXTRA team for the fall, and she made the team! She had a great time at the try-outs when she realized that it was fun to play with other girls who had the same skill level as she did. Looking forward to seeing how she does with the EXTRA team in the fall.

In the evening, Cecily had her costume Cotillion, which was the last cotillion for the 4th grade year. She wore Dawn's Queen of Hearts costume which fit perfectly into the cotillion theme of Disneyland. After cotillion, we headed to dinner at Cucina Alessa. The girls had a great time.

Cecily also got to play with Brendan when Uncle Allen and Aunt Cindy came down to visit as well. 05-03-14 On Sunday, Caren and Cecily helped Sophia celebrate her 6th birthday at the park. Peter Pan 05-02-14
Since it was so hot, after school Cecily went next door to our new neighbors' place to play in the sprinklers with their girls Ella, Harper, and Remi. Even though they had to play in the driveway because they don't have a yard, the girls still loved it. In the evening, we went to see Lost Boy Alexsia and Pixie Nicolette perform in Peter Pan. For the opening night show, both of them got to fly across the stage which was super cool to see. Cecily said her favorite part of the show was the flying.
