Disneyland 08-31-11

Since we did California Adventure on Monday, we decided to go to Disneyland today. After taking the Monorail into the park, Caren took Cecily on her very first ride on the Matterhorn. Even though Caren was so proud of her for going on it, Cecily ended up not liking the Matterhorn because she said it was too fast and the monster was scary. We headed to Toon Town to ride Roger Rabbit's Cartoon Spin and visit Mickey at his house. Then we rode Small World, Tea Cups, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Winnie the Pooh. On the way, we stopped by the Big Thunder Petting Zoo, took pictures with Prince Charming, Cinderella, and Fairy Godmother, and walked through Sleeping Beauty's Castle. When we took the Monorail back to Downtown Disney, we stopped at House of Blues for lunch.

California Adventure 08-29-11

After not going to Disneyland all summer, Caren took Cecily today because the annual passes were finally unblocked. We spent the morning/early afternoon at California Adventure riding Monster's Inc., Flik's Flyers, Heimlich's Chew Chew Train, Ariel's Undersea Adventure, Golden Zephyr, Toy Story Mania, and Soarin' Over California. We even got to see the new Phineas and Ferb Rockin' Rollin' Dance Party. Cecily loved Ariel's Undersea Adventure and says it's her new favorite ride. She also loved taking her picture with Pluto and Sully.

Anniversary Weekend 08-20-11

We started off our anniversary weekend with a quick trip to Legoland for our annual Ambassador Build. This year, we had the largest build of Han Solo on a Tauntaun (actual miniland model) with 336 pieces. We had to go see the actual model in miniland when we were done. Then we headed to Board & Brew in Del Mar for lunch. Cecily enjoyed her beef dip, while Richard and Caren ate their delicious Turkado. We checked into our hotel and got ready for dinner at Forever Fondue. We got a little lost, since we didn't realize that the restaurant had moved locations. After dinner, we had Coldstone for dessert (since our waitress didn't do anything special for our anniversary), and we showed Cecily the seals in La Jolla Cove.
Staying one night at the Estancia La Jolla, we were able to go across the street to show Cecily around UCSD again. We were supposed to get a welcome amenity, turn down service, and late check-out from the hotel as part of the UCSD Alum program. Since we didn't get those, the front desk gave us a $50 breakfast credit, which we really enjoyed. After we ate, we spent the morning in the salt water pool. When we checked out, we headed over to UCSD where we showed Cecily the Sun God, Library Walk, Geisel Library, the Dr. Seuss exhibit & statue, Snake Path, UCSD Bookstore, and drove the campus loop. Then we had lunch at Pizza Port with a snack at Roberto's (yummy carne asada burrito). When we got back to Orange County, we grabbed Yogurtland for dessert before heading home.

Dana Point 08-13-11

We took a trip down to Dana Point to see the tide pools. It was cloudy, but we enjoyed the drive down the coast. Cecily remembered going there on a field trip with her class and was excited to show Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto the tide pools. We saw lobster shells, snails, hermit crabs, sea anemone, and a little crab. Afterwards we headed to El Torito for lunch with a view of the marina.

OC Fair & Jacob's Birthday 08-12-11

Grandma Lynn & Grandpa Otto headed to Disneyland for the day, and we couldn't join them because our passes are blacked out. So Caren took Cecily to the OC Fair to make up for it. We saw a magic show, checked out the livestock, rode the Skyride, and watched a cow milking demonstration. On the way home, we stopped at Ikea for meatballs and ice cream.
Later in the evening, we went to Boomer's to celebrate Jacob's 7th birthday. The kids had a blast playing the games and going on rides. They all got soaked on the bumper boats, and Cecily almost made it to the very top of the climbing wall. Cecily's poor brand new Toms got trashed on that wall (and we had just bought them the day before! Good thing Nordstroms has a great return policy). We ended the night with a round of miniature golf.

Great Park 08-11-11

Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto came out to visit, so we took them to the Irvine Great Park. It was our first time there too, and we all had a good time. Cecily played on the rock playground and we rode the balloon and carousel. We can't wait to go back and take Richard so he check out the view of Orange County from the balloon. Then we headed to Irvine Spectrum to eat lunch at Wahoo's and walk around. Cecily got some new shoes for school at Nordstroms where she made a beeline for the blue sparkly Toms. We even took Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto to Yogurtland for dessert. When Richard got home from work, we went to Downtown HB to eat dinner at Ruby's on the pier.

Mary Poppins 08-07-11

Since we saw that mini Mary Poppins concert/show at South Coast Plaza on July 13, Cecily has been enjoying her free CD and dancing to the music. So we decided to treat Cecily to see the actual Mary Poppins production at the OC Performing Arts Center. Caren bought tickets to the last show, and we had dinner at the South Coast Plaza Claim Jumper just like we did when we went to see Peter Pan. The show was two hours and 45 minutes, and Cecily enjoyed every moment of it. She commented that the Banks house looked like a Build A Bear house, which it did! We love sharing fun theater experiences with Cecily.

Soccer Camp 08-05-11

This week, Cecily attended her very first AYSO soccer camp to get a refresher course on the game before soccer season starts. The coaches were all from the UK, and Cecily's coach Jason was from Scotland. Her friends Madison, Nicolette, Alexsia, and Amy were in her group. The kids had fun learning skills and playing scrimmages. Grandma and Papa came to visit on Monday, we went to the Lego build and Rainforest Cafe with Jacob and Madi on Tuesday, swam and ate at Fuddruckers with Tomi, Jack, Kayla, and Sean on Wednesday, fed the ducks at the park with Alexsia on Thursday, and attended a birthday party for Artemis on Friday. Can't wait to find out who our coach and teammates will be for the upcoming AYSO season!
