During the Pelican Pride Assembly on the last day of school before Winter Break, the kids with perfect attendance (no absences and no tardies) for the first trimester also got a special award. Cecily received the attendance award and the I Make Great Choices Award. share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U7KQ

Nutcracker & School Holiday Party 12-15-11

Cecily's class had their first field trip to go see the Nutcracker at Golden West College. The kids were super excited and really enjoyed the show. The only bad thing was that the school at the morning performance had showed up 30 minutes late, so it pushed our performance back and made us almost miss our class holiday party. share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U61w As soon as we got back to school from the Nutcracker, our class had a pizza lunch and their holiday party. The kids got to do lots of fun crafts: handprint reindeer stocking, soap snowball, holiday wreath, picture frame ornament, and a reindeer sleigh snack. Luckily they were able to finish all their activities and took their crafts home. share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U65A

Girl Scouts 12-14-11

We had our last Brownie meeting of 2011 today. The girls brought a new toy to donate to Toys for Tots, wrote Christmas cards to the troops, made catnip toys for the animal shelter, and made friendship bracelets for their Girl Scout pen pals in Washington. When we come back from Winter Break, it will be time to start selling Girl Scout cookies! share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U6xg

Disneyland 12-13-11

Cecily and Caren were invited to a cast member Christmas party at Disneyland tonight by Ann and Charlize. The cast member parties were last night and tonight. Since it rained last night, it made tonight more crowded. We rode the Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Haunted Mansion before enjoying popcorn, churros, hot chocolate, and corn dogs. Before we left, the girls each picked out their own Disney ornaments to hang on their trees at home.

HB Boat Parade 12-11-11

Tonight we attended our annual Huntington Harbour Boat Parade party at the Hanks home. This year, they built a gingerbread house for the kids to play in and had a magician to entertain them. We ate a delicious meal of mashed potatoes and beef in a lovely martini glass. Then we headed over to Van's house to watch the boat parade and have dessert. After the parade, we went for a ride on Van's boat to check out the holiday lights on the harbour homes.

Katelyn's Birthday Party 12-10-11

Happy 8th Birthday, Katelyn! We helped her celebrate at her roller skating party. Cecily was a little apprehensive, but she did great. She enjoyed skating around the rink with her friends from school (Sinead, Nicolette, Bethany, and Julia). Maybe we'll have to get her a pair of roller skates for her birthday.

Two Front Teeth 12-09-11

All she wants for Christmas is her two front teeth! Cecily lost her other front tooth as soon as she got home from school. She had been wiggling it all day, and she was super excited that it came out. In honor of loosing her tooth, she read Junie B. Jones Toothless Wonder for her homework that night.

Brendan's Birthday Party & HB Xmas Parade 12-04-11

We celebrated Brendan's first birthday at his Angry Birds birthday party. Cecily loved all the decorations and games. They even had a fun photo booth for pictures. We ate yummy food from the taco cart, and Cecily got to bring home some of the stuffed Angry Birds toys as well as a few of the bouncy balls.
After the party, we hurried back to HB for Cecily to walk in the HB Christmas Parade with her Girl Scout troop. Well, we had thought the parade was at 5, but it started at 4:30. So Cecily missed marching in the parade, but we were able to meet her troop at the end of the parade for a photo with their Christmas banner and headbands. Then we enjoyed dinner at Johnny Rockets with Jo, Danielle, and Nicholas.

Gymnastics Meet 12-03-11

For the past three months, Cecily had been in a program at SCATS called CAP - the competitive academy program (with her friend Danielle). The 13 girls met every Saturday to learn short routines on the beam, vault, bars, and floor. Today they had their "meet" to showcase what they have learned for their parents and "judges." Cecily was really nervous about performing in front of people, but once she got started she really enjoyed it. Now she can't wait to do CAP again in the spring.

Happy Birthday Richard 12-02-11

Happy Birthday, Richard! We celebrated with a delicious dinner at Roy's in Newport Beach. We shared the lobster potstickers, which Cecily ate most of. Cecily loved that she got her own steak (kids short ribs) and that they wrote her name on her dessert (ice cream sundae). Caren had the filet mignon with chocolate melting souffle for dessert, and Richard had the blue cheese Hawaiin ono with the pineapple upside down cake with coconut ice cream for dessert. They also brought out a chocolate cake with Happy Birthday written on the plate for Richard with a candle. Since we ate so much, we had to go walk around Barnes and Noble where Cecily found a display of Angry Birds.

Soccer Party 12-01-11

We had our end of the season team soccer party tonight after postponing it from our original date. There was a problem with our location, so we ended up hosting it at our house. The whole team made it out, and the coach passed out trophies to all the girls. Caren got a gift card and t-shirt from Taco Surf for being the Team Mom, while the coaches both got gift cards to California Pizza Kitchen. Caren made picture frames and soccer necklaces for the girls and also gave them soccer bracelets from Justice, soccer magic towels, and Three Musketeer bars.

Athena's Birthday Party 11-30-11

We went to Brewbakers to celebrate Athena's 7th birthday. The kids got to make their own pretzels and rootbeer. They had fun rolling out the dough to shape their own pretzel and mixing the rootbeer by kicking the big silver barrel.

Beach Pictures 11-26-11

We took pictures on the beach for our Christmas card this year. Cecily's tooth had just fallen out the day before, so it made the pictures more special with her gap toothed smile. It was hard to catch the good lighting, but we were able to get some great sunset shots. Plus, it was extremely low tide which added to the beauty of the background.

Lost Tooth 11-25-11

Cecily lost her third tooth this morning!
She can't wait for the Tooth Fairy to come tonight!

Happy Thanksgiving 11-24-11

Happy Thanksgiving!
We headed up to Pasadena to spend time with Papa, Grandma, Uncle Allen, Aunt Cindy, and Brendan. Cecily had a hard time eating because her extremely wiggly tooth was bothering her, but she still enjoyed the yummy turkey, gravy, and pumpkin pie.

Legoland 11-22-11

On our second day of Thanksgiving break, we took Tomi, Jack, and Brandy to Legoland to check out the new snow. We rode the Fairy Tale boats, flew on the helicopters, watched the firefighter show, played in the snow (went sledding down a small hill and made snowballs to throw), ate ice cream, played in the big castle playground, rode Beetle Bounce, flew on the airplanes, went down the big slide, spun on the Bionnicle ride, and took pictures with the Lego Santa and reindeer. It wasn't too crowded, and we all had a great time.

Happy Feet Two 11-21-11

For the first day of Thanksgiving break, we went to see the new Happy Feet Two with Paige and Dawn. Cecily loved hearing Pink's voice as Gloria, the mama penguin. Her favorite character was Gloria and Mumble's son, Erik. After the movie, we went to lunch at Burger King where the girls got Happy Feet Two toys with their kids meals. They also had fun in the play place.

Pelican Pride 11-18-11

At the Pelican Pride Assembly this morning, Cecily earned the Extra-Effort Award from her teacher, Mrs. Panek. She has been working hard and hoping soon to earn the Pelican Pride Award.

Special Person Day 11-16-11

Cecily's school had Special Person Day, and she invited Michelle to come be her Special Person. She loved having Michelle watch her performance and check out her classroom. We went out to Red Table (the new restaurant by Trader Joe's) to benefit the school through a fundraiser and to celebrate Caren's birthday.

Happy Birthday Caren 11-15-11

Happy Birthday, Caren!
After school, we went to Disneyland to enjoy the last day of our annual passes and to see Santa. While visiting Santa, we also saw Pluto and the reindeer at the Big Thunder Ranch. Cecily did some coloring before we went to watch the Christmas Fantasy Parade. We ate a yummy Monte Cristo sandwich for dinner and had a Jack Skellington chocolate mousse cake for dessert at Cafe Orleans. Then we headed over to California Adventure where we rode Soarin' Over California, the Little Mermaid twice in a row (we were the last ones off that ride for the evening when they closed the park), and watched World of Color for the very first time.

Disneyland 11-14-11

We were invited to a special Disney Annual Passholder evening at Disneyland. Cecily was the star student for the week in her class and had Henry the Hippo to take around, so we brought him with us. We went to Disneyland early to catch the fireworks before the park closed for the special passholder event. After watching it snow on Main Street, we rode Buzz Lightyear, Small World, Tea Cups, and Haunted Mansion. They had some really cool character photo ops (Country Bears, Aladdin and Jasmine with the Genie and Abu, Scrooge McDuck, and Santa and Mrs. Claus with elves), but the lines were ridiculously long. We couldn't stay out late because Richard had to get up early for work and Cecily had school the next day.

Soccer & Junie B. Jones 11-12-11

This morning was our last soccer game of the season for the Purple Musketeers. We played the team that scored 11 goals on us last time. Luckily they didn't score as many this time, but they did score a lot. The Purple Musketeers still had a fun season.
After gymnastics, we headed over to Alexsia's house to pick them up for our theater date. They were filming the movie "A Green Story" at their house. We walked by Ed O'Ross who plays Alexsia's grandpa, Van, in the movie on the way into the house. Cecily got to meet the little girl, Talia Jackson, who plays Alexsia. Then we headed out to the OC Performing Arts Center to see Junie B. Jones on stage. After the show, we had dinner at Anqi before walking around South Coast Plaza to check out the Christmas decorations. When we dropped Kelly and Alexsia off at home, they walked us over to Van's house where the filming had moved. We got to watch them film a scene with Ed O'Ross and Annabella Sciorra on the back deck, the same spot we will be in December for their Boat Parade party.

P!nk on Rove LA 11-10-11

Caren and Cindy went to see a live taping of Rove LA, a talk show with an Austrailian host. It was filmed at the CBS studio next to the Grove. Luckily, because Rove is not well-known in the U.S., they had no problems getting tickets and getting into the studio for the taping. They went to see the show because P!nk was one of the guests. The tickets stated the show started at 5:30. They got to the studio around 5 and left at about 8:30. They had a lot of fun and can't wait to see it aired on rove.tv on the internet. Cecily was jealous that they got to see P!nk, so Caren promised to take Cecily to a P!nk concert the next time she tours.
(Caren and Cindy's heads are right behind the host, Rove, in their Awkward Family Photo)

Brownie Meeting 11-09-11

At our Brownie meeting today, we packed up the box with all the goodies the troop made and collected for our Washington pen-pals, the girls made fleece blankets for Project Linus, and the girls also made Thankful Trees to take home and share with their families.

Happy Halloween 10-31-11

Happy Halloween!
Originally, Cecily was going to be Rapunzel, and she helped Caren make a beautiful long braid out of yarn for her hair. Sunday night, she changed her mind and decided she wanted to be a witch.
At school, they had a Halloween Parade in the morning for all the staff and kids, then Cecily's class had their Halloween Party. It was fun to see all the creative costumes. For our class party, the kids made spider webs with spider ornaments, played Halloween Bingo, decorated a pumpkin, made Halloween shaped sandwiches, and dipped pretzels in chocolate and sprinkles.
After school, we headed over to the Seacliff Shopping Center to go trick-or-treating with Emma. The girls loved running from store to store to collect candy. They even got to see some dogs in Halloween costumes.
Later in the evening, we went to Laira's house for our annual Halloween dinner of chili spaghetti. Then we went trick-or-treating with them in their neighborhood. Cecily collected so much candy that she got tired from carrying her heavy cauldron (which happened to match nicely with her witch costume).

Soccer & Halloween Party 10-29-11

Today the Purple Musketeers played the Red Jaguars. We were in charge of snack and gave out not so healthy snacks in honor of Halloween. Since the girls are the Purple Musketeers, we hadto give them 3 Musketeer bars.
After soccer, Cecily had gymnastics and then we headed down to Mission Viejo for Brandy's Halloween party. Cecily was excited to see Tomi and Jack since we don't get to see them very often. Brandy made some cute themed snacks (skeleton finger chocolate pretzels, witch hats with cookies and Hersey kisses, Oreo spiders, and hot dog mummies) and went all out with the kids' crafts. The kids watched a little bit of Spooky Buddies, but they said it was too scary. They entertained themselves with the fun glow ropes and Twister. Katie and Nathan came out from Vegas to celebrate Halloween with us at the party.

Disneyland 10-28-11

We took a quick trip to Disneyland to try to find Sally and Jack (from the Nightmare Before Christmas) to sign Cecily's autograph book. But by the time we got there, they were done for the day. So we will have to try to hopefully find them before our passes expire! Since we were making it a quick trip, we only did a few things (took the Monorail into the park, rode the Nemo Submarines, checked out Tarzan's Treehouse, met up with Nicolette and Olivia, rode Pinocchio, and rode Mr. Toad's Wild Ride) before grabbing a turkey leg to take home to Richard for dinner.

Thursday, October 27, 2011

Pumpkins & Soccer 10-27-11

We were invited to carve pumpkins at Nicolette's house after school. Cecily, Katelyn, Nicolette, Olivia, and Olivia's friend Haley designed and carved their very own pumpkins. The girls had so much fun scooping out the insides. After soccer practice, Cecily and Caren ran to Trader Joe's to grab some eggs before heading home for dinner and to open Cecily's special package from Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto.

Brownie Meeting 10-26-11

At our Brownie meeting today, we celebrated Halloween with a themed lunch and dessert (mummy hot dogs, cucumber eyeballs, carrot stick fingers, and dirt pudding with gummy worms). The girls made skeletons from different shaped pasta to take home and a hand-print wreath for their Girl Scout pen-pals in Washington.

Sunday, October 23, 2011

Legoland 10-23-11

The reason for the family visit was to go to Legoland together to celebrate Austin and Hayden's birthdays. It was actually a nice day, not hot and crowded. We rode lots of rides, the kids trick or treated at the Brick or Treat trail, and Cecily got to watch her favorite show, The Big Test.

Saturday, October 22, 2011

Soccer & Hayden 10-22-11

The Purple Musketeers played Kickin It this morning in the fog. Cecily loved having her cousins there to cheer her team on. For lunch, we went to Wahoo's. While Cecily was at gymnastics, her cousins went to the beach. Caren recycled the leftover cupcakes from Austin's birthday with green frosting for Hayden's birthday. For dinner, we went to Buon Gusto. After we ate, we headed home to celebrate Hayden's birthday.

Friday, October 21, 2011

Olympics & Austin 10-21-11

Cecily's school had their Annual Olympic Day this morning. The kids paraded around with their class banners before competing in games and learning about health & nutrition.
After school, Cecily helped Caren bake cupcakes for Austin's 5th birthday. Cecily was super excited for her cousins to come visit. When they arrived, we sang Happy Birthday to Austin and ate the yummy cupcakes.

Wednesday, October 19, 2011

Disneyland 10-19-11

Since our passes are expiring soon, we have to take advantage of short days at school to make a quick run to Disneyland. We took the monorail into the park, drove an Autopia car, rode Buzz Lightyear, walked through Sleeping Beauty castle, met Rapunzel, rode Pinocchio's Daring Adventure, colored a bat puppet, and checked out the carved Disney pumpkins before heading home for dinner.

Tuesday, October 18, 2011

Pumpkin Patch 10-18-11

We went up to Pasadena to go to the Pumpkin Patch with Papa, Brendan, Aunt Cindy, and Uncle Allen. Since we had to wait until Papa and Uncle Allen were home from work, we went at night. Poor Brendan was grumpy, but we took some pictures and bought some pumpkins. Cecily loved jumping in the bounce houses.

Saturday, October 15, 2011

Soccer Game 10-15-11

Papa came down last night to visit and to watch Cecily play soccer. She loved having a sleepover with Papa in her room. Today the Purple Musketeers played the HB Hi-Lighters, which had Julia from Cecily's class at school and Amy from her team last year. Even Trish and Isobel came to support our team. We lost 0-1, but the girls are really starting to play a lot better. Cecily was so happy to have Papa to play with her after the game.

First Brownie Meeting & Fish 10-12-11

We had our first Brownie meeting of the year. The girls loved learning about another Girl Scout Troop from Washington state. They sent us pictures, postcards, items from their state, and information about them. So we brainstormed about things we could send them from California before the girls wrote some information about themselves, drew pictures, and made little Girl Scouts with the Promise and Law to help them learn it this year. We ended the meeting with a delicious snack of home-made brownies. Yummy!
So, after receiving her very first pet fish at Olivia's birthday party on October 2, the first two fish passed away barely a week later on October 9 (Swimmy) and October 10 (Little Polka Dot). Cecily was sad, but she helped take them out of the tank and flush them down the toilet. Since we had invested in the tank and Cecily had used her own money to buy the fish a pineapple house, Richard thought we should get some new fish. Now, the three new fish (Swimmy #2, Goldie, and Spot) are living happily with Roxy and the new pink plants. Cecily loves her pet fish.

Soccer Game & Brunch 10-08-11

The Purple Musketeers played the Sparkling Dolphins today. The other team KILLED us 9-2. So much for AYSO's no slaughter rule. Their coach didn't even try to keep them off our side of the field. After the game, we had a team brunch at Sinead's house. The girls had so much fun playing and bouncing together in the trampoline.
