Happy Halloween 10-31-11

Happy Halloween!
Originally, Cecily was going to be Rapunzel, and she helped Caren make a beautiful long braid out of yarn for her hair. Sunday night, she changed her mind and decided she wanted to be a witch.
At school, they had a Halloween Parade in the morning for all the staff and kids, then Cecily's class had their Halloween Party. It was fun to see all the creative costumes. For our class party, the kids made spider webs with spider ornaments, played Halloween Bingo, decorated a pumpkin, made Halloween shaped sandwiches, and dipped pretzels in chocolate and sprinkles.
After school, we headed over to the Seacliff Shopping Center to go trick-or-treating with Emma. The girls loved running from store to store to collect candy. They even got to see some dogs in Halloween costumes.
Later in the evening, we went to Laira's house for our annual Halloween dinner of chili spaghetti. Then we went trick-or-treating with them in their neighborhood. Cecily collected so much candy that she got tired from carrying her heavy cauldron (which happened to match nicely with her witch costume).

Soccer & Halloween Party 10-29-11

Today the Purple Musketeers played the Red Jaguars. We were in charge of snack and gave out not so healthy snacks in honor of Halloween. Since the girls are the Purple Musketeers, we hadto give them 3 Musketeer bars.
After soccer, Cecily had gymnastics and then we headed down to Mission Viejo for Brandy's Halloween party. Cecily was excited to see Tomi and Jack since we don't get to see them very often. Brandy made some cute themed snacks (skeleton finger chocolate pretzels, witch hats with cookies and Hersey kisses, Oreo spiders, and hot dog mummies) and went all out with the kids' crafts. The kids watched a little bit of Spooky Buddies, but they said it was too scary. They entertained themselves with the fun glow ropes and Twister. Katie and Nathan came out from Vegas to celebrate Halloween with us at the party.

Disneyland 10-28-11

We took a quick trip to Disneyland to try to find Sally and Jack (from the Nightmare Before Christmas) to sign Cecily's autograph book. But by the time we got there, they were done for the day. So we will have to try to hopefully find them before our passes expire! Since we were making it a quick trip, we only did a few things (took the Monorail into the park, rode the Nemo Submarines, checked out Tarzan's Treehouse, met up with Nicolette and Olivia, rode Pinocchio, and rode Mr. Toad's Wild Ride) before grabbing a turkey leg to take home to Richard for dinner.

Pumpkins & Soccer 10-27-11

We were invited to carve pumpkins at Nicolette's house after school. Cecily, Katelyn, Nicolette, Olivia, and Olivia's friend Haley designed and carved their very own pumpkins. The girls had so much fun scooping out the insides. After soccer practice, Cecily and Caren ran to Trader Joe's to grab some eggs before heading home for dinner and to open Cecily's special package from Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto.

Brownie Meeting 10-26-11

At our Brownie meeting today, we celebrated Halloween with a themed lunch and dessert (mummy hot dogs, cucumber eyeballs, carrot stick fingers, and dirt pudding with gummy worms). The girls made skeletons from different shaped pasta to take home and a hand-print wreath for their Girl Scout pen-pals in Washington.

Legoland 10-23-11

The reason for the family visit was to go to Legoland together to celebrate Austin and Hayden's birthdays. It was actually a nice day, not hot and crowded. We rode lots of rides, the kids trick or treated at the Brick or Treat trail, and Cecily got to watch her favorite show, The Big Test.

Soccer & Hayden 10-22-11

The Purple Musketeers played Kickin It this morning in the fog. Cecily loved having her cousins there to cheer her team on. For lunch, we went to Wahoo's. While Cecily was at gymnastics, her cousins went to the beach. Caren recycled the leftover cupcakes from Austin's birthday with green frosting for Hayden's birthday. For dinner, we went to Buon Gusto. After we ate, we headed home to celebrate Hayden's birthday.

Olympics & Austin 10-21-11

Cecily's school had their Annual Olympic Day this morning. The kids paraded around with their class banners before competing in games and learning about health & nutrition.
After school, Cecily helped Caren bake cupcakes for Austin's 5th birthday. Cecily was super excited for her cousins to come visit. When they arrived, we sang Happy Birthday to Austin and ate the yummy cupcakes.

Disneyland 10-19-11

Since our passes are expiring soon, we have to take advantage of short days at school to make a quick run to Disneyland. We took the monorail into the park, drove an Autopia car, rode Buzz Lightyear, walked through Sleeping Beauty castle, met Rapunzel, rode Pinocchio's Daring Adventure, colored a bat puppet, and checked out the carved Disney pumpkins before heading home for dinner.

Pumpkin Patch 10-18-11

We went up to Pasadena to go to the Pumpkin Patch with Papa, Brendan, Aunt Cindy, and Uncle Allen. Since we had to wait until Papa and Uncle Allen were home from work, we went at night. Poor Brendan was grumpy, but we took some pictures and bought some pumpkins. Cecily loved jumping in the bounce houses.

Soccer Game 10-15-11

Papa came down last night to visit and to watch Cecily play soccer. She loved having a sleepover with Papa in her room. Today the Purple Musketeers played the HB Hi-Lighters, which had Julia from Cecily's class at school and Amy from her team last year. Even Trish and Isobel came to support our team. We lost 0-1, but the girls are really starting to play a lot better. Cecily was so happy to have Papa to play with her after the game.

First Brownie Meeting & Fish 10-12-11

We had our first Brownie meeting of the year. The girls loved learning about another Girl Scout Troop from Washington state. They sent us pictures, postcards, items from their state, and information about them. So we brainstormed about things we could send them from California before the girls wrote some information about themselves, drew pictures, and made little Girl Scouts with the Promise and Law to help them learn it this year. We ended the meeting with a delicious snack of home-made brownies. Yummy!
So, after receiving her very first pet fish at Olivia's birthday party on October 2, the first two fish passed away barely a week later on October 9 (Swimmy) and October 10 (Little Polka Dot). Cecily was sad, but she helped take them out of the tank and flush them down the toilet. Since we had invested in the tank and Cecily had used her own money to buy the fish a pineapple house, Richard thought we should get some new fish. Now, the three new fish (Swimmy #2, Goldie, and Spot) are living happily with Roxy and the new pink plants. Cecily loves her pet fish.

Soccer Game & Brunch 10-08-11

The Purple Musketeers played the Sparkling Dolphins today. The other team KILLED us 9-2. So much for AYSO's no slaughter rule. Their coach didn't even try to keep them off our side of the field. After the game, we had a team brunch at Sinead's house. The girls had so much fun playing and bouncing together in the trampoline.

Olivia's Birthday Party 10-02-11

Happy 5th Birthday Olivia! We helped her celebrate at her princess fair party. The kids played games to win princess prizes. Cecily's favorite prize was the goldfish! After the party we went over to swim with Emma. It was a hot day so it was nice to cool off at the pool.

Soccer Game 10-01-11

The Purple Musketeers played the Pink Panthers which happened to be Alexsia and Nicolette's team. Since Eric was our coach last year, our girls wanted to play great and win. Sinead scored the first goal, followed by Ciara, and Sophia scored two goals. We couldn't believe we won four to one. After the game, we went to watch Kayla and Emma at their games before heading to SCATS for the first day of the CAP program with Danielle. Then we headed up to Pasadena to have dinner with Grandma, Papa, Uncle Allen, Aunt Cindy, and Brendan.
