Dean's 60th Birthday Party 05-30-09

We celebrated Caren's dad's 60th birthday with a backyard BBQ at his house. Cecily let us borrow her birthday lanterns to decorate. Party guests included family, high school friends from San Marino, work friends, and new friends. Everyone had a great time.

Memorial Day 05-25-09

We went to a Memorial Day BBQ at Brandy's house. The kids had so much fun swimming in their pool. Tomi got Cecily to swim the width of the pool all by herself! Now to get her to work on swimming the length of the pool.

Coastal Cruise 05-22-09

Our second day at sea we played trivia and bingo in the morning, had tea in the afternoon, and went to a returning cruisers cocktail party in the evening. It was also our second and last formal night, so we got all dressed up again.
The next day was our last day at sea as well as our last full day on the boat. We had our first breakfast in the Gold Pearl dining room after having breakfast all week in the Splendido Lido buffet. Cecily got to decorate cookies at a Camp Carnival event where Uncle Doug participated in an ice cream eating contest. Her last night in Camp Carnival, Cecily colored a bag to keep and take home.
We returned to Long Beach bright and early in the morning. The disembarkation went so smoothly that we were off the boat and sitting outside at 8:30 AM. Time to start planning the next cruise. New England or Alaska??

Vancouver, Canada 05-21-09

Our final port was Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. Caren's friend Kristen lives here, so she volunteered to be our personal tour guide for the day. Caren and Kristen hadn't seen each other in ten years, so they enjoyed catching up. Kristen took us to the Capilano Suspension Bridge, Stanley Park, Prospect Point, Kids Farmyard, and Gastown. Kristen told us we were the best visitors she's had since we were very relaxed when we saw the sites. Caren and Kristen can't wait to plan a Salzburg reunion!

Victoria, Canada 05-20-09

Our second port was Victoria, British Columbia, Canada. We had originally booked a Buchart Garden tour, but our ship docked really late. We wanted to explore the town so we canceled our tour. Instead, we walked along the waterfront to downtown Victoria. We saw beautiful flowers along the way as well as the Parliament Building and the Empress Hotel. Next time we come back, we definately want to do tea at the Empress Hotel. We took a horse drawn carriage back to the ship, and Cecily really enjoyed the ride.

Astoria, Oregon 05-19-09

The first port on our cruise was Astoria, Oregon. The Goonies and Kindergarten Cop were both filmed here. As we were in line to get off the ship, the sky opened up and hailed on the first passengers. It was hilarious watching them all scramble back onto the boat drenched. By the time they were all back on and we finally made it off, the sky had cleared up, and it did not rain for the rest of the day. We enjoyed walking through the cute downtown area and along the waterfront. Cecily stayed in her stroller most of the time because it was too cold for her, but she finally got out and ran around for a little bit as well.

Carnival Splendor 05-17-09

We took a last-minute vacation on a cruise up the Pacific Coast on the Carnival Splendor. Christina and Doug were supposed to go to Catalina and Ensenada for their anniversary but switched to a Pacific Coastal cruise. When we saw the itinerary and the price, we asked if we could go with them.
We surprised Cecily and told her the day before we left. She was so excited to go on another "birthday" boat, especially with her Uncle Doug and Aunt Christina, who promised that they would bring her cousins next time we went on another boat. The first day of the cruise was our first full day at sea. Cecily had her first day at Camp Carnival (or what we called "boat school"), and we explored the ship. It was also our first formal night, so we took lots of pictures while we were all dressed up.

Mother's Day 05-10-09

Happy Mother's Day!
We started off the day with Cecily's first tennis lesson with Caren. She had a little bit of a hard time and got easily frustrated, but she loved hitting the ball over the net and can't wait to play again.
Then we went for a swim. Cecily is such a fish and was so excited to show Richard that she could dive to the bottom of the pool to pick up her pool toys.
We ended the day with dinner at Disneyland. After eating, we rode Monsters Inc. and Small World, and we watched the end of the Celebration Parade and the Finding Nemo Observation Room. On our way out, we rode in the front of the new monorail. Cecily even got to sit in the captain's seat for a picture!

Lowe's and Tea 05-09-09

Richard took Cecily to her first Build and Grow workshop at Lowe's to build a Mother's Day planter for Caren. They met up with some of the other dads and kids from Cecily's playgroup and had lots of fun building the planter. The kids all got to keep a cute little Lowe's apron as well as a patch for building the planter.
While the dads and kids were at Lowe's, the moms met for an early Mother's Day Tea at the Sussex Tea Pot Tea Room. The tea was delicious, and the moms all had a very relaxing time.
When Caren got home from her tea, Cecily gave her the Mother's Day planter she had made at Lowe's.
Then, we went up to Pasadena to have an early Mother's Day dinner with Grandma and Papa at Cafe Bizou. Happy Mother's Day Grandma!

Disney Day 05-03-09

Since Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto were visiting, they really wanted us to take them to Disneyland. So we went today (they got annual passes so they can come back again and again!). We rode Finding Nemo Submarines, Small World, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Toy Story Mania, and Soarin Over California. Cecily also enjoyed the Big Thunder Ranch Petting Zoo and Tarzan's Treehouse. While Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto rode Big Thunder Railroad and Indiana Jones, we took Cecily on the Mark Twain Riverboat and Winnie the Pooh. We had dinner at the Cafe Orleans where we all enjoyed the Monte Cristo. We even saw the fireworks on our tram ride back to the parking garage. Cecily can't wait to go to Disneyland with Grandma Lynn and Grandpa Otto again!

John's Wedding 05-02-09

Richard's parents came out to visit and stay with us for the weekend so we could all attend Richard's cousin John's wedding. They got married at the Centennial Heritage Museum and also had their reception there. The location was a beautiful setting, with a garden wedding and outdoor reception. We also got to see Richard's other cousin Heidi and her family as well.

Jericho's Birthday Party 05-02-09

Cecily's friend from school, Jericho, turned 5, so we went to her birthday party for a little bit. They had a big bounce house with a slide, that Cecily had so much fun going down. We couldn't stay very long, because we had to go to a wedding, but Cecily had a good time with Ava and Jericho at the party.
