Junior Lifeguards 06-24-15

Cecily started the 5 week Junior Lifeguard program at Bolsa Chica State Beach. She had been looking forward to this ever since she passed her swim test at the beginning of June. Her friends, Elizabeth and Emily, were also doing the program. Cecily loved all her cool Junior Guard gear and was looking forward to a fun summer on the beach. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V5SQ

Father's Day Weekend 06-21-15

Gung Gung was not doing well, so Cecily and Caren drove up to San Jose with Papa to visit him over Father's Day Weekend. We headed up north on Friday, with a stop at In-N-Out at Kettleman City for lunch. Cecily was happy to see Pua Pua and Catherine. We met Clement's fiance and celebrated his 27th birthday. On the way to dinner, we stopped by the nursing home to see Gung Gung. He smiled and was happy to see us, but it also made Cecily sad to realize he might be gone soon. On Saturday, we stopped by to see him twice, bringing Bowser with us the second time. He liked having the dog come visit him as well as his grandkids and great-granddaughter. Cecily decided she wanted to make him a Father's Day card/poster to bring him tomorrow. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V5Lw
We celebrated Father's Day with dim sum. Cecily ended up working hard to make Father's Day cards for Richard, Great Uncle Danny, Papa, and Gung Gung. Catherine helped her by printing out pictures and supplying her with stickers and markers. We stopped by the nursing home with Bowser to wish Gung Gung a Happy Father's Day. While the last couple of days he was happy to see us, today he was not responsive to us. He was able to see the great card Cecily made, and we left it on top of his dresser for him to look at. Then we made the long drive back down to Southern California, stopping again in Kettleman City for a BBQ Father's Day dinner with Papa. The bbq place had an awesome little western town play area for kids that Cecily really enjoyed. She can't wait to bring Richard up to see it next time we drive back to San Jose. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V5Pg

Last Day of School 06-17-15

Can't believe today is the last day of elementary school for Cecily! We have been at Harbour View for six years from kindergarten through fifth grade. Cecily went to all her previous teachers and principal (except for her kinder teacher who is at Circle View now) to have them sign her yearbook and get one last photo with them. The day started off with the last Pelican Pride Assembly, where Cecily received her very last Pelican Pride Award. So proud of her for getting it almost every year (except in 2nd grade)! After school, we celebrated with lunch at Hangout Too with Scarlett before heading to Davenport Beach to kick off summer with her friends. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V48w

Field Day 06-16-15

Fifth Grade Field Day was also the last day of Survivor Week, ending with the Rocket Launch. At Field Day, the kids split into groups to participate in team activities (Scavenger Hunt, Late to Work, Beach Ball Volleyball, Obstacle Course, Biddle Bopper, and 3 Legged Race). They had fun doing all the activities, and they enjoyed their TK Burger lunch followed by Kona Ice. After lunch, it was time for the Rocket Launch. So fun watching the kids launch their 2 liter bottle rockets that they decorated, and so exciting that Erica's rocket came in 2nd place for Cecily's class. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V40Q

Charlize's Birthday Party 06-13-15

Happy 11th Birthday, Charlize! We helped her celebrate at her birthday bonfire at the beach. The girls had fun playing in the surf as well as the party games that Charlize's sister, Cecilia, came up with (hula hoop pass through, musical towels, hot beach ball, etc.). The weather was nice and not too windy. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V4tw

Beach Day 06-11-15

Today was our last annual Harbour View Beach Day. Cecily's first four beach days were at Humboldt. But 5th Grade Beach Day was at Davenport. It rained before school started, but the sun came out as the kids arrived at Davenport Beach. It was fun to watch the sandcastle building contest and tug-of-war between the classes. The kids had a blast playing in the water, being sprayed by Harbour Patrol, and enjoying their Kona Ice. Our school is so lucky to be able to have a beach day every year to celebrate the end of school. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V4HQ

HV Picnic 06-10-15

Cecily's class had Career Day this morning with six parents coming in to talk about their jobs. The kids loved checking out a Tesla. After school, Harbour View had their annual end-of-the-year picnic. Cecily had fun running around with her friends, getting cotton candy, and playing games. In the evening, we went to buy her junior guard gear which she was really excited about. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V37Q

Italian Street Painting 06-09-15

The 4th and 5th graders had their Italian Street Art assembly this morning. The person in charge this year was not prepared so the boxes were not marked out for the kids to draw in. Luckily, Cecily had one of the original boxes made so she had a bigger space for her art. She and Daniella drew a beautiful sunset picture. Loved seeing all the different pictures the kids drew. Jackson and Zach even drew a Narhwal. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V33g

Egg Drop 06-08-15

Today was the start of 5th Grade Survivor Week, where the 5th grade classes participate in some friendly competition for fun. They started off the competition with the egg drop, which was Cecily's event. She and her friend Amber were one of the teams representing their class, the Nerd Herd. They went through 3 different versions of boxes to protect their egg and tested it by dropping it off our balcony. Cecily was so excited that her raw egg survived!! http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V3zw

Jr. Guards & Girl Scout Bridging 06-06-15

This morning, we attended the last Junior Lifeguard try-out session to see if Cecily could pass the swim test. She was nervous, and it was a little nerve-wracking watching her try to swim 100 yards in under 2 minutes and 10 seconds, but she did it!! The rest of the try-out was super easy for her (swim underwater for 10 yards and tread water for 5 minutes). Now, she can't wait for summer and Junior Guards to start! In the afternoon, we headed to Bolsa Chica Beach for our end-of-the-year Girl Scout Bonfire and Bridging ceremony. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V3uA

Happy National Donut Day! Caren had her last PTA meeting at Harbour View this morning followed by a PTA thank you lunch at the Hangout Too. She gave Cecily a quick hair cut before they headed to Alaina's 11th birthday party. The kids made music videos and watched Maleficent on the big blow-up screen. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V3qQ

Tiger Woods Learning Center 06-01-15

This week, Cecily got to attend Tiger Woods Learning Center in Anaheim for some forensics and golf for all the 5th graders. The kids had a blast learning about forensics (DNA, fingerprints, etc.) as well as playing some golf. Now with her ID badge, Cecily can go back to Tiger Woods for the next year for free golf. What a great opportunity for the kids! http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3V3mg
