Brownies & Dylen's Birthday 03-28-12

Cecily was back at her Brownie Meeting this week with lots of energy. Her troop had a field trip to Home Depot, where they got a tour of the store, built a tulip planter, and potted a flower. Since Cecily had been to many Home Depot Kids Workshops, she breezed through building her planter. She is getting really good with a hammer! http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U-pA
That evening, we went to a birthday party for Dylen, a boy in Cecily's class, at Prehistoric Pets. Cecily loved seeing all the reptiles, but she did not want to hold any of them. The only one she actually touched was Frank, or Mr. Kipling from the Disney Channel show Jessie. Prehistoric Pets had the world's largest snake, and a snake with two heads! One boy from their school was brave and let them put a tarantula on his head. That was crazy to see. It was fun to check out all the different reptiles they had there. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U-tQ

Sophia's Birthday Party 03-23-12

After being in the hospital for 17 days, Cecily sure bounced back fast. In fact, she was doing so well, she enjoyed celebrating her friend Sophia's 8th birthday at her rollerskating party. All her friends were so excited to see her and happy that she had recovered. Cecily loved the rollerskating party so much (as well as her cousin's rollerskating party in February), that she wants her birthday to be at the roller rink too. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U-eQ

CHOC 03-04-12

We had an unexpected hospital stay at CHOC from March 4 until March 20. On Friday, March 2, Cecily was prescribed Cefdinir, an antibiotic to treat a chest infection. She played her first soccer game of the spring season on Saturday morning. Saturday night, after her 3rd dose of the antibiotic, we assumed she had an allergic reaction when her lips swelled up, cracked, and bled. Not wanting her throat to close up so she couldn't breathe, we took her to Hoag ER. As soon as the doctor saw her, he knew it was Stevens Johnsons Syndrome and transferred us to CHOC by ambulance. After doing tests at CHOC, they determined the Stevens Johnsons was a result of mycoplasma pneumonia and not the antibiotic. She had a PICC line put in so that they could feed her through the IV since her lips, mouth, tongue, and throat blistered up and made it too painful to eat and drink. Her recovery was very slow as there is not a "cure," but only monitoring to make sure she did not get worse. They administered IVIG to help slow down the blistering. Luckily, she only got a few on her body. CHOC had a playroom that provided books, DVDs, and crafts to keep the kids entertained in the hospital. Cecily got visited by several therapy dogs as well as the UC Irvine cheerleaders. To encourage her to walk, eat, and drink, they made her a sticker chart so she could earn prizes. Once she started to feel a little better, she had lots of friends visit to cheer her up. Finally the last weekend we were at CHOC, Cecily started to bounce back. Her blisters started to dry up and heal, and she started to eat. She loved going for a walk down to the gift shop to pick out things to buy like candy and toys. Her last night at CHOC, she even played air hockey in the playroom with her friend Tomi. Since Caren had no car and Richard had to work late, her friend Brandy picked them up from the hospital. It helped Cecily to see and play with Tomi and Jack once she was out of the hospital. Leaving the hospital, Cecily looked great and doesn't even seem like she stayed in the hospital for 17 days. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U-hg

First Soccer Game 03-03-12

Today was the official start of the spring soccer season. Cecily's team, the Smurfettes Tangled Up in Blue, played their first game against the Hurricanes bright and early this morning. Cecily was feeling a little under the weather from all the coughing, so she only played the last quarter. Her team played really well together (this will be the third team that Cecily and Sinead will have played on together). This should be a fun season! http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U-Ww

Pelican Pride 03-02-12

Harbour View postponed the February Pelican Pride to today. Cecily earned the Math Award and was super excited to get it. Since it was the first Friday of the month, they combined the Pelican Pride Awards with the Patriotic Assembly. http://share.shutterfly.com/action/welcome?sid=8UbNGrdw3U-PQ
